Former Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has pulled out Democratic Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Edgar Busiega from the Malava Constituency by-election despite denying earlier that it’s candidate was withdrawing.
The withdrawal appears to be part of a deal in which DCP then endorsed Seth Panyako of Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K)
Prior to the withdrawal report, DAP-K had issued an ultimatum to DCP to withdraw their candidate or face a split in the opposition front
According to DCP’s deputy leader Cleophas Malala, the decision was based on a “scientific survey” that indicated that Panyako had stronger chances if they united.
The By-election date for Málava is set for November 27th
