The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has confirmed the unfortunate incident that occurred on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the KRA offices located at the Lake Basin Mall in Kisumu.

In a statement, KRA said a middle-aged man jumped from the second floor of the building, sustained serious injuries, and succumbed.

KRA said it deeply regrets the incident and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

The Authority said the matter has been reported to the relevant authorities, and investigations are currently underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“KRA is fully cooperating with law enforcement officers to facilitate the ongoing investigations,” reads part of the statement.

Additionally, KRA reminded all taxpayers and members of the public that any incidents, concerns, or suspicious activities can be reported through the nearest Tax Service Office, or by calling 0711099999, or by sending information via the KRA iWhistle platform.

Lake Basin Mall Incident

Security officers at the Mall said the man arrived on Thursday morning and parked his car in the parking slot.

He then handed over the car key, directing that his son would come for the car.

“The guy, after parking, came back and handed over the car key so that his son could pick up the vehicle,” said one of the guards.

The guards said he returned to the building and jumped from the 2nd floor a few moments later.

He died on the spot.

The police collected his body and took it to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga teaching and referral hospital mortuary pending postmortem examinations.

Police have since opened up investigations to ascertain what led to the incident.
