Former Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has spoken for the first time since the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Speaking during a burial service in Kariara Ward, Gatanga Constituency, Muranga County, Gachagua criticized President William Ruto for “betraying” the people of the Mount Kenya region.
While referring to the President using his new nickname “Githinji,” Gachagua accused Ruto of lying to the residents of the region during the 2022 general election.
“You, Githinji, we elected you, we loved you, and voted for you. You became the president, but you betrayed us. You lied to us and went ahead to frustrate us,” Gachagua said.
He alleged that President Ruto is now sending his political allies to mock and insult key leaders from the region.
“Now you are sending your allies to mock and assault us. He is abusing our community. Your friend abused me, Uhuru Kenyatta, Martha Karua, Justine Muturi, and Linturi,” Gachagua alleged.

Gachagua said the Mt. Kenya residents are bitter with the current region, and it will be witnessed in the next election.
“I want to tell Ruto that we are not bad people; you are the one who has made us look like bad people. I want to warn you that you will witness our bitterness on August 8, 2027,” he said.
