Despite the ongoing protests across Tanzania that began on Wednesday, the government proceeded to announce the results.
Protesters slammed the government accusing it for undermining democracy after main opposition candidate Tundu Lissu remains in custody during elections and some candidates disqualified.

What Tanzania Did to Curb Protests

Due to deadly unrest, Tanzanian government imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Dar es salaam, therefore citizens should be indoors from 6:00pm to 6:00am.
Earlier, Regional Commissioner Alfred Chalamila warned that security agencies will deal with individuals who will try to disrupt election process.
However, several polling stations were vandalized by protesters and ballot boxes destroyed.
Since the election day, internet and communication in Tanzania were shut down.
According to Minister of Foreign Affairs Thibaut Kombo, this move was strategy to curb protests from escalating further.
Several lives has been reportedly lost and both private and public properties vandalized.
