Uhuru Kenyatta Opens Up on His Personal Health Battles

Share

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has for the first time publicly spoken about his personal health struggles during the burial of the late Frank Ireri, the former Managing Director of the Housing Finance Company of Kenya (HFCK), who passed away on October 28, 2025, at the age of 63.

Speaking at the funeral, Kenyatta revealed that he had been going through health-related challenges in recent months, noting that Ireri had been a source of encouragement and guidance during that difficult period.

“I’ve lost a friend, I’ve lost a colleague,” Kenyatta began emotionally.

“I don’t know whether I should say this, but these are realities of life. In the last year, and a good part of this year, whenever we met, he was very encouraging about some of the challenges we were going through,” he lamented.

Revealing His Struggles

Kenyatta said Ireri’s counsel was invaluable, describing him as a mentor who always offered words of wisdom and reassurance when life seemed overwhelming.

“Since he had more experience than some of us, he was very encouraging in guiding and telling you how to look at things and how to handle them,” the former president said.

He added that Ireri’s advice had helped him cope with health and other life difficulties, emphasizing how much he would miss his late friend’s guidance.

“He was very helpful, some of these challenges in life, health, and otherwise, and I will miss that counsel,” he stated.

Faith and Acceptance

Kenyatta urged those facing similar battles to remain steadfast and hopeful, saying Ireri often reminded him that tough times eventually pass.

“He really held our hand and told us, don’t worry, things will come to pass, it will go. We trust in God,” he said.

Reflecting on Ireri’s passing, Kenyatta expressed acceptance and faith.

“We believe that the reason Frank is lying here is because it is his time. Those of us who have those challenges will continue fighting with them, but equally, when it is God’s time, we shall join him and be thankful for the life that we lived and the times that we shared,” he concluded.
