Two dead and several injured as fresh landslide hits Elgeyo Marakwet

Two people have been confirmed dead and several injured as a fresh mudslide hits Elgeyo Marakwet’s Kibendo area.

Kenya Red Cross response teams are en route to the site.

According to reports, the incident occurred at around 8:00 pm on Sunday, November 2, 2025.

It is reported that the landslide was triggered by the heavy rains received in the area.

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich confirmed the incident around midnight, noting that the region has been experiencing heavy rainfall over the past few days.

“We have encountered another landslide at Kibendo in Keiyo North following persistent rains, and sadly, lives have been lost, “he said.

The terrain remains extremely hazardous as access roads are blocked, flash floods complicate efforts, and heavy rain is still ongoing.

Governor Rotich has issued a warning to all residents living along the escarpments and plains to immediately move to higher areas, as they’re fragile areas.

“These are extraordinary times, and we each must comply to save lives, “he said.
