Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu has expressed disappointment over the post-election protests, condemning the loss of lives and destruction of public and private property in several cities.

She said the violence does not reflect Tanzania’s values and revealed that some of the arrested youths were from outside the country.

“Wote tunayetakia mema chi hii, tumesikitishwa na tukio la uvunjiko wa amani, upotovu wa maisha na uharibifu wa mali za umma na za watu binafsi  kwenye baadhi ya maeneo hapa chini hasa kwenye majiji. Kilichotekea hakiendani na taswira za KiTanzania na siyo utanzania. Haikutushangaza kuona kwamba baadhi ya vijana waliyokamatwa wametoka nje ya Tanzania,” Suluhu said.

President Samia Suluhu stated that security agencies are closely investigating the incidents and working diligently to restore normalcy across the country.

“Vyombo vyetu vya ulinzi na usalama vinaendelea kufuatilia na kuchunguza kwa undani zaidi kilichotokea na kurudisha nchii katika hali tuliyozoea kwa haraka,” she said.

Suluhu Warns Protesters

Suluhu warned those who incited the unrest, saying that violence and disorder only lead to conflict, while dialogue fosters unity.

She urged citizens to choose the path that benefits the nation, emphasizing that the security of every country is a shared responsibility that must be protected at all costs.

“Ndungu zangu nitumie fursa hii kutoa onyo kama mama. Kutoa onyo kwa wale wote waliochochea uvunjifu wa amani. Nataka watambue kuwa vurugu na uvunjifu huishia kupimana nguvu na uwezo wa kujiami ila mazungumzo huzaa mashikamano. Sasa tuchague lenye manufaa kwetu kwani usalama wa taifa lolote hulindwa na wote kwa nguvu na gharama zozote,” Suluhu said.
