Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strong diplomatic and trade relations with Tanzania.
Following the inauguration of President Samia Suluhu Hassan in Dodoma on October 3, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who represented President Ruto at the ceremony, released a statement, emphasizing Kenya’s dedication to having a steady and successful East African region.
Kindiki, in his statement, referred to Tanzania as a ” key friendly neighbour and a strategic trade partner of Kenya,” and that Nairobi appreciates its strong historical and economic relationship with Dodoma.
According to him, the peace and progress of the regional partners of Kenya is closely tied to its prosperity.
“Kenya’s future is inextricably linked to a stable, peaceful, and prosperous within the context of East African Community (EAC) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA),” Kindiki said
The Deputy President also conveyed a message of goodwill on behalf of the Kenyan government, expressing the country’s desire for Tanzania’s government to continue having a long-term peace, stability, and prosperity.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan was reelected in October 2025 after a highly contested general election.
The polls were largely peaceful, with observers commending the process as being orderly and transparent.
She was made the first female president of Tanzania in 2021 following the death of President John Magufuli.
Her victory extends her presidency.
African Leaders Converge in Dodoma
The Presidents of Burundi (Evariste Ndayishimiye), Zambia (Hakainde Hichilema), Mozambique (Filipe Nyusi), and Somalia (Hassan Sheikh Mohamud) also attended the event.
The Vice Presidents of Uganda (Jessica Alupo), Zimbabwe (Constantino Chiwenga), and Comoros (Djaffar Ahmed Said Hassani) were also present.
The inauguration ceremony drew widespread attention in most parts of the continent. Several other countries sent high-level delegations to attend the event.
Kindiki’s presence at the ceremony demonstrated Kenya’s desire to deepen the diplomatic and economic ties with its neighbours.

Kenya and Tanzania continue to collaborate on trade, infrastructure, tourism, and border management under the EAC framework.
He also pointed out that Kenya has been committed to the peaceful coexistence and mutual development of the region, with a focus that shared developmental objectives that could only be realized through collaboration and stability in the neighbouring countries under the African Continental Free Trade Area(ACFTA).
