The Government of Kenya has moved to calm fears of its citizens residing in Tanzania as increasing news emerged on social media that some Kenyans were being detained, kidnapped, or murdered following the post-election unrest.
In a statement issued on November 5 by the Kenya High Commission in Dar es Salaam reaffirmed that normal operations have resumed following the lifting of the curfew and restrictions imposed after Tanzania’s general elections.
“The welfare and safety of Kenyans staying in Tanzania remain a top priority for the mission,”read part of the statement, emphasizing that the mission remains in touch with the Tanzanian authorities all the time, to ensure all Kenyan nationals are safe and secure.
The assurance comes days after Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan alleged that persons behind some of the election-related violence were foreigners, including Kenyans.
The claims sparked concern among the Kenyan diaspora in Tanzania and brought about a lot of tension.
However, the Commission said it is in regular communication with the relevant authorities in Tanzania to ensure that the Kenyan nationals are safe and protected.
“The High Commission encourages the Kenyans in Tanzania to continue with their lawful, normal activities as usual,” the Commission said.
Meanwhile, the Commission has called on Kenyans in Tanzania to be law-abiding.
He also urged them to report any distress or security-related issues to the High Commission in Dar es Salaam immediately through official communication channels.
“The High Commission reiterated, urging Kenyans in Tanzania not to stop their normal and lawful activities in the country, “pledging continuous monitoring of the situation and regular advisories where necessary.
