Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja visited the Thika home of Deputy Commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU), Assistant Inspector General Godhard Kamau, on November 5 to offer his condolences following the death of Kamau’s wife, Agnes Mburu Mugure, after a long illness.
During the visit, Kanja expressed his heartfelt sympathy to Mr. Kamau, his family, and close friends, acknowledging the pain of their loss and commending the late Mrs. Mugure’s strength and resilience throughout her illness.
He described Agnes Mugure as a “pillar of strength and support to her family and community,” noting that her legacy of compassion and dedication would continue to inspire those who knew her.
Senior Officers Mourn With the Family
He assured the bereaved family of the National Police Service’s solid support during this tough time.
“On behalf of the whole National Police Service and on my own behalf, I extend our deepest and utmost condolences to the family of AIG Kamau.
We stand with you during this difficult time,” Mr. Kanja said.
He also mentioned that the NPS fraternity remains united in these times of sorrow, emphasizing the importance of compassion and unity among officers and their families.

NPS Leadership in Attendance
The Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, Eliud Lagat, the Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service, Mr. Gilbert Masengeli, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mohamed Amin, the Commandant of GSU, Mr. Ranson Lolmodooni, SAIG, and other high-ranking officers of the National Police Service were also present with Mr. Kanja.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Kamau expressed gratitude for the Inspector General’s visit and the overwhelming support extended by his colleagues within the service.
“We are deeply touched by the show of solidarity from the NPS leadership. It gives us strength and courage to endure this difficult period,” he said.

The late Agnes Mburu Mugure is remembered as a patient mother, wife, and a community member who helped in a number of church and charity programs in Thika.
Burial plans are underway, with further updates to be given by the family.
