ODM Issues Two Demands to IEBC After Violent clashes in Kasipul

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has condemned violence acts escalating in Kasipul constituency ahead of of the upcoming by-elections.

Kasipul constituency will hold by-elections on November 27th 2025, after the demise of MP John Were.

In a public notice dated on November 7th, 2025, ODM party called out security agencies to act swiftly to investigate the incident when goons disrupted the voter engagement of ODM candidate Boyd Were.

The incident left many injured, loss of lives, property distruction among others.

“We are deeply disturbed by reports that a peaceful voter engagement by our candidate, Hon. Boyd Were, was violently disrupted yesterday by goons associated with one of the candidates. The attackers stormed the venue, destroyed property, and endangered the safety of residents; unfortunately resulting in loss of lives and leaving behind fear and tension among the community,” read part notice.

Furthermore, ODM said similar incident happened recently during Women Empowerment Program in Sikri where several cars were vandalized by goons.

The party has called out dialogue over confrontation as the choose to maintain peace and decorum despite frequent attacks.

“This is not an isolated incident. During the recent Women Empowerment Programme in Sikri, several vehicles belonging to supporters of our candidate were vandalized, and the women attending the event were harassed and injured. Despite such intense provocation, our party and candidate have consistently maintained peace and decorum, choosing dialogue over confrontation,” ODM stated.

Additionally, they said that intimidation and acts of lawlessness intended to disrupt free, fair and peaceful election has no place in Kasipul.

ODM Demands After Violence

1. Call upon security agencies to act swiftly and decisively and bring to book perpetrators and financiers of these acts of violence.

2. Urge the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure a level playing ground for all candidates.

3. Appeal to all candidates and our supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and refrain from inflammatory utterances and actions that threaten peace during this campaign period and beyond.

Incident That Happened in Kasipul Constituency

On November 6th, 2025 in Kasipul Constituency, Homabay county, supporters of Philip Aroko and Boyd Were clashed in a heated exchange during political rally.

Both candidates are eyeing the Kasipul parliamentary seat ahead of by-elections.

The incident left two people dead while others sustained serious injuries.

Two killed as Phillip Aroko, Boyd Were supporters clash ahead of Kasipul By-election

The confrontation occurred at Opondo area in Central Kasipul Ward when supporters of independent candidate Phillip Aroko and ODM’s Boyd Were engaged in violent skirmishes.

County Police Commander Lawrence Koilem confirmed the incident saying Aroko and his supporters stormed Were’s campaign venue.
