Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has warned that any Kenyan caught taking or giving out bribes in the forthcoming police recruitment exercise will have to face the full law.
Murkomen directed that the officers in charge of the recruitment ensure the exercise runs within the stipulated timeframes and concludes by 5 pm in all centres across the country.
Speaking on Sunday, November 9, 2025, during a church service at A.G.C. Kaboson in Bomet County, Murkomen said the ministry has put in place plans to stop graft and ensure the success of the recruitment exercise.
“We demand transparency and accountability.
Those who are carrying money people when people go to run so that they can bribe, we want to tell you that we will arrest you,” the CS said.
In an attempt to control and restrain the malpractice, Murkomen urged the locals to record anyone involved in bribery using their phones and turn them in to law enforcement.
He questioned why citizens often have time to capture politicians on camera but fail to document such illegal acts.
In addition, Murkomen pointed out that all successful candidates should be announced as soon as it is done to ensure everyone is aware of the results in time.
“We want you, as local Kenyan communities, to come out as observers. We want your support for those who will be bribing, to record them and bring them to us so that we can sort out this thing of corruption,” he stated
Murkomen repeated his order and said,
“We want the exercise to be done by 5 pm so that we can be able to announce all the successful applicants.”

This announcement follows the declaration by the High Court that the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) can do nothing in the recruitment, training, employing, assigning, promoting, suspending, or dismissing members of the NPS.
According to the court, these functions are solely the independent command of the Inspector General (IG) as outlined in Article 245 of the Constitution.
Kanja wrote in the notice that all applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28 years, with a valid Kenya national identity card, and have a minimum grade of D+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and a minimum grade of D+ in English or Kiswahili.
