Man Who Stole Samsung Phone Says He Just Wants To Serve The Community

A man has admitted to having stolen a Samsung phone worth Ksh21,000 and has opened up about his interest in serving the community.

During the court trial, Joseph Odhiambo invaded a house in Garissa County on November 4, 2025, and stole a phone.

The court charged Joseph with theft, and he will remain in custody as he waits for a further ruling on November 18.

“Umeshtakiwa na shitaka la wizi wizi kinyume na Sheria,” which translates (You have been charged with the offence of theft contrary to the law).

The court heard that he entered the complainant’s home and took the device, leading to his arrest.

Carolyne Wanjiku Kimani reported the incident to Makongeni police station about her missing phone, which led to the arrest of Odhiambo.

During the ruling, the court confirmed that Joseph was seen be neighbors and was even captured by CCTV cameras invading Wanjiku’s premises.

How Suspect Urged the Court

Joseph made an emotional plea to the court, confirming his wrongdoing and promising to be a changed person.

He also said he is the father and grandfather at the same time, on which the whole family depends on for daily bread, an incident that pressure him to meet basic needs for the family.

However, Odhiambo accepted the mistake and urged the court to consider a sentence that would allow him to work and give back to society rather than staying behind bars.

“The act I committed was wrong, and I ask the court to forgive me. I am a father and a grandfather, and my family needs me. If this court finds me guilty, I kindly request to be given a sentence that allows me to serve the government and my community,” he said.

Additionally, the court scheduled sentencing for November 18, 2025.
