A tragic stampede at the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise at the Elwak Stadium in Accra has claimed the lives of six potential recruits and injured several others.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Public Relations at the Headquarters of the GAF, the incident happened early morning on November 12, 2025, when an unexpected surge of applicants breached security protocols and rushed into the stadium gates around 6.20 am ahead of the scheduled screening.
Preliminary reports indicate that the uncontrolled rush caused the fatal stampede, resulting in multiple casualties.
“The unfortunate incident resulted in the death of six potential recruits and many others were injured,” the statement read in part.
Victims Rushed to 37 Military Hospital
The injured victims are currently receiving emergency care at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.
The Armed Forces assured the public that the medical teams are doing everything to stabilize the affected individuals, while efforts are being made to notify the families of the deceased.

GAF Extends Condolences to Families
Colonel Evelyn Ntiamoah Asamoah, the Acting Director General of Public Relations, expressed the institution’s sorrow over the incident.
“The Ghana Armed Forces is extending its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes a swift recovery to those injured,” Asamoah said.
The GAF also promised to communicate further updates as investigations continue into the tragic event that marred the commencement of the 2025/2026 recruitment exercise.
