Police officers in Kirinyaga County have nabbed a man who allegedly stabbed his friend after a short argument over a KSh 50 debt.

This mysterious incident happened in Mutitu Village, Kirinyaga Central Constituency.

The duo, Jacob Maina and John Wachira, have been close friends for a long period of time, working together as power saw operators.

Residents said the confrontation turned deadly the moment Maina requested his share of the KSh50 out of the KSh200 payment.

Maina said they had received payment after cutting a neighbor’s tree.

According to an eyewitness, William Mwangi, a resident, Maina asked for his share, and Wachira refused, and that is the moment Wachira stabbed him.

“Maina asked for his Ksh. 50, but Wachira refused. They started arguing, and suddenly Wachira pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the chest,” Mwangi stated.

He added, “Maina died on the spot.”

Another resident, Samuel Kamure, who is also a coffee farmer in the Mutitu area, said they were shocked to learn about this incident, as the duo were indeed close friends.

“These two were good friends. We never imagined such a thing could happen between them,” he said.

In addition, villagers said this incident is the first to ever happen in Mutitu Village as the community has been living peacefully.

Mary Wanjohi, a resident, also said Maina requested his money just to go and drink alcohol.

“He just wanted to go drink. That’s why he was asking for the Ksh. 50,” said Mary.
