As part of the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the National Independence of the Republic of Angola, the Angolan Diplomatic Mission in the Republic of Kenya held a Solemn Ceremony this Friday, the 14th, in Nairobi, which brought together distinguished individuals, including members of the Kenyan Government, the accredited Diplomatic Corps, the business community, members of the Angolan Community residing in the country, among other personalities.
In his speech, the Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to the Republic of Kenya, Mário de Azevedo Constantino, said that the 50th anniversary of National Independence is undoubtedly a historical milestone and, at the same time, a time for reflection on the past struggle for the liberation of the Angolan people from Portuguese colonial rule.
“Today, we celebrate not only five decades of freedom and nationhood but also the resilience, courage, and determination of the Angolan people in attaining and safeguarding their cherished independence. This celebration is both a tribute to Angola’s journey of self-determination and a commemoration of the unity, sacrifice, and courage of a people who secured their freedom and right to govern their affairs,” Constantino said.
Ambassador Mário Azevedo Constantino reiterated that, with the achievement of peace, Angola laid the foundation for national reconstruction.
He highlighted the favourable business environment, improved security, and the strategic importance of the Lobito Corridor in driving economic diversification both in Angola and across the Southern African region.
He also emphasized the good level of relations between Angola and Kenya.
“Kenya and Angola share a proud Pan-African bond rooted anchored on a common history of liberation and mutual commitment to advancing Africa’s unity and development. Our bilateral relations continue to grow stronger through cooperation in trade and investment, education, energy, agriculture, and multilateral diplomacy,” he added.
