Anti-Counterfeit Authority Chairman Josephat Gichunge Kabeabea has denied bribery charges and has been released on a Ksh2 million bond or an alternative cash bail of Ksh1 million, with the court ordering him to surrender his passport.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has charged Kabeabea with soliciting and receiving a KSh5 million bribe from a businessman.
Kabeabea appeared before the Milimani Anti-Corruption court on Monday, November 17, where Prosecution, led by Wesley Nyamache, told Senior Principal Magistrate Celesa Okore that the ACA board chair unlawfully sought a financial advantage of Ksh5,000,000 from businessman Du Zhisheng.
The alleged bribe was reportedly demanded in exchange for favourable treatment in a case involving suspected counterfeit motor vehicle spare parts.
Prosecution further told the court the offence occurred on 11th November 2025, and the DPP approved the charges after reviewing the evidence gathered by investigators.
