The Government of Kenya has confirmed that several government websites experienced a temporary outage on the morning of November 17, 2025, following what officials have described as a cybersecurity incident.

In a statement, the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy said, “Our teams acted quickly, and all services are now fully restored.”

According to the ministry, the disruption affected access to government websites but did not compromise any data.

“No personal or government data was accessed, altered, or lost,” the statement clarified, noting that immediate mitigation measures were applied to secure the affected platforms.

The Ministry further emphasized the government’s commitment to providing uninterrupted digital services.

“The Government remains fully committed to maintaining the security, reliability, and resilience of Kenya’s digital infrastructure,” the statement read.

Cyber Attack Suspected as PCP@Kenya Claims Responsibility

The Ministry of Interior and National Administration released a separate communication confirming that the outage was linked to a cybersecurity incident.

“A cybersecurity incident occurred in which several government websites were rendered temporarily inaccessible,” the Interior Ministry said.

Preliminary findings suggest that a group identifying itself as ‘PCP@Kenya’ may have been behind the attack.

Authorities said they immediately activated incident response procedures.

“We worked closely with relevant stakeholders to mitigate the impact and restore access to the affected platforms,” the ministry noted.

Systems Restored and Investigations Ongoing

The Interior Ministry stated that the situation has been contained and systems are now being closely monitored.

It added that efforts are underway to enhance defenses.

“Our focus is on building layered defences, improving readiness, and ensuring that any attempt is detected early, contained quickly, neutralized decisively, and its impact minimized,” the statement said.
