The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced that the Operation Support Unit (OSU) arraigned a suspect for defrauding a complainant of Ksh300,000 over a fake firearm certificate.
Suspect Aarif Ibrahim Gani promised to issue a firearm certificate to the complainant’s son.
The suspect is accused of using deceitful tactics to lure the complainants into the fraudulent firearm certificate deal.
“Operation Support Unit (OSU) detectives have arraigned a suspect who defrauded an unsuspecting victim of Ksh300,000 in a fraudulent firearm certificate deal,” said DCI.
The suspect and an accomplice planted a false narrative between December 1, 2024, to March 7, 202,5 stating that they could help to initiate the required documentation.
Detectives said they used this mechanism to gain trust from the victim before scamming him in the process.
“On diverse dates between December 1, 2024, and March 7, 2025, the duo exploited the victim’s trust, creating a false narrative that they could facilitate the required documentation, defrauding him of the said amount in the process,” DCI wrote on their X account.

It took so long for the said certificate to be produced as the accused said that it was due to technical upgrades that caused the delay.
However, they produced a forged document and claimed that it was from the Firearms Licensing Board
“After several delays without any certificate in sight, the accused produced a forged letter, allegedly from the Firearms Licensing Board, claiming that technical upgrades were causing the holdup,” DCI asserted.
“This ploy was nothing more than a tactic to buy time and further manipulate the victim in a classic con game.”
