The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a public notice announcing the temporary shutdown of a major section of the Eldoret Bypass to facilitate an upcoming sporting event.
According to the authority, “KeNHA wishes to inform the public of the temporary closure of the Eldoret Bypass (A8 – North Road) from Cheplaskei Interchange to Maili Tisa (Leseru) Interchange on Saturday November 22, 2025 between 6.00am and 3.00pm.”
The notice, dated November 16, 2025, outlines that the closure will affect the A8-North Road segment, a key stretch that diverts traffic around Eldoret town.
KeNHA explained that the measure is necessary to ensure safety and smooth operations during the cycling event.
In the statement, the authority noted that the shutdown is “to allow for the 2025 Ceder Sports Academy cycling race.”
The agency further cautioned that the closure will impact normal traffic flow for several hours, urging the public to prepare accordingly.
The announcement emphasized KeNHA’s commitment to minimizing disruption, stating that “any inconvenience is regretted.”

Motorists using the bypass have been advised to take alternative routes for the duration of the closure.
KeNHA directed drivers to use the Cheplaskei–Maili Tisa (A8) Road through Eldoret’s Central Business District.
The route, commonly known as Uganda Road, is expected to handle increased traffic as vehicles are redirected.
The authority stated that “motorists are advised to use the Cheplaskei – Maili Tisa (A8) Road section through the Eldoret City Central Business District (CBD), commonly referred to as Uganda Road.”
The rerouting will ensure that event participants have exclusive use of the bypass for the race.

Residents living along the affected bypass section have also been asked to cooperate with enforcement teams managing traffic during the event.
KeNHA appealed to the public to follow instructions issued by personnel on the ground.
According to the notice, “residents living along the Eldoret Bypass are advised to follow guidance from traffic police officers and traffic marshals.”
The temporary closure is expected to last nine hours, after which normal traffic operations will resume.
KeNHA assured the public of its commitment to safety and efficient road management as the region hosts the cycling race.
