ODM Party Leader, Dr. Oburu Oginga, while attending a function in Migori, has given a warning to critics within the party, stating that he will not be intimidated nor allow ODM to be torn apart under his leadership.
Surrounded by Luo Nyanza MPs, Oburu said those mistaking his calm demeanor for weakness,” are about to see his true colours.”
Oburu started his speech by reminding his followers that he did not rise to the top seat of his party by himself, but it was a consensus of the organs of the ODM party following the death of his brother, Raila Odinga.
“Since my brother died, the party organs decided I am the right person to be the party leader. I did not campaign or go around asking people to make me the party leader when Raila died.”
“Those who are fighting me, why are you going after someone who has no issue with you?”

He acknowledged the magnitude of filling the shoes of Raila, describing the late ODM leader as irreplaceable but insisting the movement must endure.
“Raila’s shoes are too big and I can’t do it alone without your support.”
Oburu stood firm in support of ODM remaining in the broad-based government structure that Raila had negotiated before his demise.
He dismissed the claims that the arrangement was meant to benefit individuals.
“Raila left us in a broad-based government. This arrangement is not meant for personal gain . Raila did not make that arrangement for personal gain.
That arrangement was made to benefit the people and members of ODM.”

He has promised that ODM will use the partnership to secure tangible benefits for its supporters across the country.
“As we proceed, we’re going to negotiate seriously and make sure our people receive their fair share of the national cake. We are not going to be ignored.”
Oburu made his fiercest comments against party members he accused of plotting to break ODM from within.
He said attempts to destabilize the party will not succeed.
“Those who want to break ODM in their fertile imaginations, I am telling them that it will not happen in my hands. We shall not allow ODM to be divided.”
He ruled out the possibility of forming splinter parties, insisting that ODM’s future lies in staying united and working from within the government.
“There’s nothing like forming a party to be in positions. I am going to lead the party to the government.”
The ODM leader claimed that he knows of the attempts to bring him down and portray him as a weak leader, but that he is prepared to do whatever he might face in the future politically.
“I am being pushed back and forth, speared here and there, but I am used to it.”
Oburu further clarified that his leadership should not be mistaken for timidity.
He informed the crowd that anyone who believes that he is a coward “will soon see his true colours.”
Oburu promised ODM supporters that he is committed to steering the party to stability and success.
“I will not let you down. I will work tirelessly to ensure we succeed.”
His comments come just after the meeting of Siaya Governor James Orengo with President William Ruto at the State House, a move that increased speculation of the worsening of rifts within ODM.
The statement by Oburu is largely viewed as an effort to reclaim power and suppress any internal rebellion.
