The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has officially announced the opening of applications for its January–March 2026 Media Industrial Attachment Programme, offering students across the country a chance to gain practical newsroom experience.
In a statement shared on November 20, the council urged aspiring student journalists to seize the opportunity.
“Attention future scribes! Be part of the exciting MediaCouncilK Industrial Placement Programme, an opportunity to hone your journalism skills while learning from the best in the industry.”
MCK said the programme is run in partnership with recognised media houses and is designed to expose journalism and communication students to real newsroom routines while preparing them for the job market.

According to the call for applications published, the placement will run for three months, beginning in January 2026 and ending in March 2026.
The council stated that the programme targets students pursuing degrees or diplomas in Journalism, Media Studies, Communication, Corporate Communication, or Digital Communication.
To qualify, applicants must be final-year students in a recognised institution and meet all documentation requirements.
MCK emphasised that the opportunity is strictly for those who have fulfilled institutional academic prerequisites.
The council outlined several mandatory documents that students must submit.
These include a recommendation letter from their learning institution issued within the past two months, academic transcripts for the current academic year, a valid student ID, and a valid MCK Student Press Card for 2026.
Students must also provide a sample of their journalistic work, whether published content, school projects, or digital pieces.
MCK noted that “students are required to upload complete and authentic documents to ensure smooth processing and verification.”

According to the council, the placements are meant to expose learners to the full spectrum of newsroom operations, from story development and news writing to digital publishing and multimedia production.
MCK advised all interested students to submit their applications online through the official portal at the provided link and to use the subject line “Industrial Attachment Application–January–March 2026.”
The deadline for submission is midnight, Monday, 1 December 2025.
In its notice, the council warned applicants to remain vigilant against fraud, stating that “The Media Council of Kenya does not solicit for payments or recruit through agents/agencies.”
