The Ministry of Roads and Transport, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), the National Police Service – Traffic Department, Notewise Music Hub, FIE-Consult, and Che-Dreamakers Events officially launched the festive season road safety campaign.
The event took place at the Swiss Lenana Mount Hotel in Nairobi on November 21, 2025.
The campaign, which will run for two months, is themed as “Road Safety and Precaution During the Festive Season in Kenya.”
These significant developments come after historically, during the festive period, which includes November and December, more fatalities and serious injuries are recorded.
In a statement from the National Police Service (NPS), an increase in travel from various places to another, speeding, among others, causes accidents.
NPS further noted that these causes can be prevented through awareness campaigns and programs.
“This is due to increased travel, night driving, drink-driving, speeding, and driver fatigue, with children and young people being especially vulnerable. However, most of these crashes are preventable, as they result from common behaviours that can be changed through greater awareness and stronger enforcement,” NPS stated.

The main purpose of this campaign is to raise awareness of festive season road risks, encourage responsible behavior among all road users.
In addition, to strengthen partnerships between government agencies, the private sector, and civil society.
It will also use music-driven messaging to make road safety communication more memorable and accessible, and to educate children and families on safe road use.
The Road Safety Liaison Officer, Boniface Otieno, who represented the Inspector General Douglas Kanja, assured the public of the Police Service’s full support and commitment to the campaign.
Otieno said that the multi-agency compliance teams that bring together the National Police Service, the NTSA, and PSV Sacco stakeholders will be deployed along major highways to ensure adherence to road safety rules.

Otieno Message to Travellers
He urged passengers to only board vehicles that have seat belts, and plan their journeys to avoid peak rush hours.
Passengers should report any road violations to the police at the roadblocks.
“Additionally, Mr. Otieno encouraged drivers to avoid speeding, refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and manage fatigue effectively by taking regular breaks. He also urged motorcycle riders and their pillion passengers to wear helmets at all times,” said NPS.
