The residents of Kadenge sub-location, Alego Usonga constituency, were left in shock on Sunday morning after a man aged 35 died by suicide following a domestic dispute over dowry livestock.
The deceased, identified as Nicholas Otieno, also known as Abanko, was found hanging on a mango tree in Udura village, hours after leaving home on Saturday night.
According to Kadenge Assistant Chief Jacob Ouma, the family raised the alarm shortly after 3.00 am when the body was discovered by the youths returning from a night vigil.
“Preliminary reports show that the tragedy was a result of a dispute over dowry cattle paid for Otieno’s elder sister.”
The dowry had been reportedly paid the previous day, but Otieno is said to have allegedly insisted on having full control of the animals.

His mother allegedly offered him just one calf, which sparked an argument.
Otieno demanded to get at least two cows, but the dispute remained unresolved.
“He wanted all the dowry animals, but the mother told him she would give him only one calf,” Chief Ouma reported.
Chief Ouma noted that Otieno left home at around 9.00 pm on Saturday and never came back.
His body was later discovered after several hours, prompting immediate reports to the authorities.
