Gachagua Demands IG Kanja’s Resignation in Strongly Worded Letter

Share

Former Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has written to the Police IG Douglas Kanja after violence erupted during his campaigns in Narok County.

In a statement, Gachagua said he has repeatedly written to Kanja on state-sponsored violence, state-sponsored militia, and unspeakable violence against him, including assassination attempts on his life and that of his supporters, and he has taken no credible action.

Gachagua alleged that the government sponsored goons and police officers to disrupt his rallies on November 24, 2025.

“Mr. Kanja, your calculated viral silence and inaction impute involvement, irresponsibility, recklessness or incompetence at play. Mr. Kanja, you are well aware that on 24th November, 2025, you and Mr. William Ruto deployed militia, uniformed police officers, and plain clothes sleuths, including the Rapid Deployment unit, to harass me and my supporters in Narok town,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua claimed that Kanja issued orders to block all highways in and out of Narok Town.

He also accused him of ordering that his supporters, women, children, and innocent traders be clobbered to the ground.

“You further ordered your police and militia to use live ammunition and lob teargas cannisters and violently disrupt my meeting while campaigning for the DCP candidate in Narok Town Ward, Hon. Douglas Masikonde,” he alleged.

Police Officers

Besides, Gachagua alleged that two police officers attached to Murang’a county woman representative Betty Maina were deployed to Narok, and they were seen publicly issuing instructions to senior police officers and coordinating the Narok Violence.

He further claimed that the two officers are the same ones who coordinated violence in Murang’a county on July 27, 2025, in Kinyona, Murang’a, and violently attacked Senator John Methu, several leaders, and my team.

Gachagua stated that the same two officers coordinated and attacked Journalist Muthoni Wa Kirumba and her fans in Makuyu, Murang’a county on November 21, 2025

“Mr. Kanja, it seems you have surrendered the National Police command to Hon. Betty Maina; this, you cannot deny. You have clearly demonstrated through your inaction that violence is under your police command,” he said.

Call for Resignation

Further, he demanded that the IG take action on the Narok Town violence on November 24, 2025, with immediate effect.

He also demands that the two police officers attached to the above politician be withdrawn from Narok and stopped from issuing instructions to senior police officers.

“If you are not in full control of the Police Service, kindly do the honorable thing and resign. Be advised accordingly,” Gachagua said.
