Ritz-Carlton Masai Mara Safari Camp Owners Speak Out Amid Ongoing Talks

Lazizi Mara Limited has issued a formal position statement addressing rising public interest in the court dispute involving The Ritz-Carlton Masai Mara Safari Camp.

The company said the matter is actively before the courts and urged stakeholders to rely on verified legal records rather than speculation.

In its statement dated November 26, 2025, Lazizi Mara Limited noted that the case is currently filed under Environment and Land Petition No. E003 of 2025, confirming that litigation is ongoing.

Company Cites Evidence Submitted to Court

The hospitality developer said it has already submitted comprehensive documentation to the court responding to allegations raised in the petition.

“We have provided all correspondence between Lazizi Mara Limited and Narok County on lease applications dating back to 2023,” the statement reads.

The firm added that it has also furnished the approval letter, the lease agreement, and the full Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report, which it said includes proof of public participation.

“Correspondence from NEMA to the petitioner confirms our compliance,” Lazizi Mara said, adding that Narok County had also communicated to the petitioner that due process was followed.

Clarification on Ownership and Operational Control

The company stated that the petitioner is already aware of the project’s real ownership structure.

“It is important to clarify that The Ritz-Carlton is neither the operator nor the owner of the facility,” the firm noted, emphasizing that Lazizi Mara Limited is both the developer and the operator.

Lazizi Mara further stated that it would refrain from public back-and-forth regarding the matter.

“In line with our commitment to due process and respect for the rule of law, we will allow the court process to proceed,” the statement added.

Firm Faults Delays in the Petition Process

According to the company, despite filing the petition in August, the petitioner has “yet to serve all parties listed in his suit as respondents,” a situation the firm says has slowed the legal process.

Lazizi Mara also reaffirmed that both the Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott conducted their own extensive due diligence before granting the brand licence.

“We are fortunate to have their continued support as the matter progresses,” said Managing Director Shivan Patel.

Company Reiterates Confidence in Judicial Process

The hospitality developer said it remains confident in the fairness of Kenya’s judicial system and will continue to comply with all legal procedures as the petition moves forward.

Lazizi Mara Limited describes itself as a privately owned Kenyan hospitality development company with more than 40 years of business heritage and 14 years of operational experience in the sector.

The company partners with global brands, including the Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott, to bring premium hospitality developments to Kenya.
