The United States government under President Donald Trump has blocked visa issuance for individuals traveling on Afghan passports.
This move comes after Trump warned to block foreigners from third-world countries from traveling to America.
In a statement posted on the Department of State X official account, it stated that the issuance of visas should stop with immediate effect.
“The Department of State has IMMEDIATELY paused visa issuance for individuals traveling on Afghan passports,” read part of the statement.
According to the State, these steps aim at protecting the U.S. national security and ensuring the members of the public are safe.
“The Department is taking all necessary steps to protect U.S. national security and public safety,” state Department added.

On November 28, 2025, Trump announced a sweeping and permanent halt to migration from all third-world countries by issuing the most expansive immigration proposals to date in a lengthy Thanksgiving statement.
He said the worded holiday message was intended to describe years of political negligence on immigration.
“A very Happy Thanksgiving salutation to all of our Great American Citizens and Patriots… when it comes to Immigration,” he wrote, accusing past policies of allowing the United States to be “divided, disrupted, carved up, murdered, beaten, mugged, and laughed at.”
According to him, the U.S. foreign-born population currently stands at 53 million, alleging, without providing evidence, that “most of whom are on welfare, from failed nations, or from prisons, mental institutions, gangs, or drug cartels.”

He added that American taxpayers were carrying a “massive” financial burden that was “eating them alive.”
Furthermore, refugees were driving social decline across the country.
“This refugee burden is the leading cause of social dysfunction in America,” Trump wrote, tying immigration to strained hospitals, struggling schools, and urban decline.
