CCTV Shows Last Moments of Standard Journalist Before His Death at Nairobi Bar

CCTV footage has revealed the final moments of journalist Amos Harun Maina at Ngaini Bar along Mirema Drive in Nairobi.

In the footage, Maina is seen drinking with Ngaini Bar waiters before he suddenly collapses and dies while still seated.

An autopsy has confirmed that he consumed a toxic substance that killed him instantly, with DCI detectives now probing the incident to unravel the mysterious death.

Maina’s final moments at Ngaini Bar along Mirema started at 4:18 p.m. on Sunday, November 16, 2025.

CCTV shows Amos entering the club before (walking to a table where a lady and a gentleman are seated.

He shakes their hands, then proceeds to the next table.

At 4:30 p.m., he joins another table and takes drinks with other revellers.

At 4:54 p.m., he is joined by a lady, and they talk briefly before she leaves.

Amos Maina Moves to the Pool Section

Still cheerful at 5:42 p.m., he moves to the pool section and plays for a while.

Maina returns to his table at 5:45 p.m. and sips his drink, then he heads back to the pool area.

At 5:18 p.m., he joins a lady seated in the club.

At 5:23 p.m.,. he leaves two ladies he had been talking to for about five minutes.

Notably, during this interaction, he never takes a drink.

The increasingly deserted club, the cameras capture what no one else notices; the final moments before everything goes terribly wrong.

Standard Journalist Orders Another Drink

At 7:47 p.m.,  Amos orders a drink. The drink is brought to the table before he joins.

The lady who served him the drink later joins him. A second lady soon joins them.  She also takes the drink.

At 7:56 p.m., the lady steps away.

How He Dozed Off and Died

At 8 p.m., Amos, who had been fit and bubbly, suddenly dozes off on the table.

He remains in this state for almost an hour until 9 p.m.

The moment that sealed his fate comes at 9:22 p.m. when his neck suddenly collapses backward.

This is believed to be the moment he died while still seated.

At 9:22 p.m., a waitress approaches and attempts to help him lay on the table, unaware that Amos was already gone.

At 9:34 p.m., the lady who had been drinking with him, the same one who had earlier served him, returns with another man to check on him.

But then Amos is already dead.

At 9:59 p.m., a man and a lady are seen checking whether he is still breathing.

Family and Friends Enter the Bar

At 10:49 p.m., Amos’s brother enters the bar. He appears devastated as he tries to wake him, even attempting resuscitation.

His efforts fail, and he struggles to carry Amos from the seat, but nothing works.

Amos appears to have been dead for a long while.

At 11:02, Amos’s wife walks into the club.

At 11:08 p.m., his body was carried out of the club by his brother with assistance from another person.

The lingering questions remain. What was the substance that Amos swallowed? The one the postmortem showed killed him instantly, and who wanted him dead?

Detectives drawn from the DCI are expected to release the toxicology report by next week, Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
