Governor Wanga Fires Oyugi Magwanga in Homa Bay Cabinet Shake-Up

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has announced changes in the constitution of the County Executive Committee.

In a statement dated December 1, Wanga said the changes are in line with the County Governments Act and take effect immediately.

“In order to enhance service delivery, to better serve the people of Homa Bay County, while exercising the powers bestowed on me as the Governor and pursuant to Sections 30, 31, and 35 of the County Governments Act, I do hereby,” Wanga said.

In the changes, Wanga removed her deputy Oyugi Magwanga from his position as the Acting County Executive Committee Member in charge of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock Development.

She appointed Danish Onyango to serve in an acting capacity.

“Re-assign Mr. Danish Onyango to serve not only as the County Executive Committee Member for Roads, Public Works, Transport and Infrastructure but to further serve as the Acting County Executive Committee Member in charge of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Development,” Wanga said.

Wanga Dismissal and New Appointment

Besides, Wanga dismissed Dr. Peter Ogolla as the County Executive Committee Member in charge of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development.

“Dismiss Dr. Peter Ogolla as provided for in Section 35(a) of the County Governments Act. He was serving as the County Executive Committee Member in charge of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development,” she said.

Additionally, Wanga nominated Joseph Mitito to serve as the County Executive Committee Member in charge of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development.

“Nominate Mr. Joseph Mitito, a consummate professional with strong leadership skills from Homa Bay Town, to serve as the County Executive Committee Member in charge of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development. As per the law, I will submit his name and vetting documents for approval by the County Assembly,” she said.

“The changes herein take effect immediately. The County Secretary is tasked with ensuring a smooth handover by those affected. I issue this Executive Order on this 1st Day of December 2025 under my hand,” she said.

Sakaja Resshuffle

This comes just a few weeks after Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja announced a major reshuffle and reorganization of his administration’s chief officers and the launch of a new decentralized governance structure in November 19, 2025.

The reshuffles, which affected 10 County Chief Officers, were made in line with Section 45(5) of the County Government Act 2012, according to Sakaja
