DCI Swings into Action After Public Uproar Over Meru Sexual Assault Video

Police officers from Laare Police Station have arrested six other suspects who were associated with a gruesome gang rape case that was reported on December 1, 2025, in Laare Town, Igembe North Sub-County.

According to the police, the attack took place in a traditional circumcision procession.

“We received a distress call from members of the public indicating that a young woman was in grave danger,” read part of the statement.

Police officers rushed to the scene and found the victim “in a state of utter despair with her clothes ripped and her spirit bruised”, before escorting her to Nyambene Hospital for treatment.

Intense Manhunt Results in Multiple Arrests

Determined to get the perpetrators to justice, the detectives engaged in a massive manhunt across the region.

“Utilising forensic leads, they executed targeted raids in Irinde, Lubwa, and Kiarama areas, successfully flushing the six suspects”

The coordinated raids were conducted in Irinde, Luabwa and Kiarama areas, leading to the arrest of the six suspects: Dennis Mwirigi, Ismael Gichuge, Elijah Muriki, Isaac Ntomauta, Joseph Marete and Phineas Mutali .

The police claimed that the suspects were driven out of their hideouts following intelligence-led raid operations.

Nine Suspects Now in Custody

The six join three other suspects who had been detained on December 1, 2025.

All nine individuals are currently in custody, undergoing their processing.

“They will be arraigned once all the procedures are complete,” the police confirmed.

Manhunt Continues

The detectives stated that the attempts to trace more suspects are still underway.

The authorities have encouraged the public to continue providing information that could help in arresting the remaining suspects.
