Ex-Governor Obado Listed Among Key Cases Set for Court This Week

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has released the new list of corruption cases scheduled to be heard and mentioned in the courts this week.

Former Migori Governor Zachary Okoth Obado is among the prominent individuals expected to appear in court.

The cases, slated between December 8 and December 12, 2025, involve allegations of bribery, forgery, abuse of office, and conflict of interest involving public officials from various institutions.

Among the most prominent cases mentioned is the Anti-Corruption Case No. E018 of 2020, involving Zachary Okoth Obado and 17 other individuals.

The accused are charged with an alleged conflict of interest concerning procurement dealings between the Migori County Government and other organizations.

The ODPP notice says,”the matter is scheduled for mention on December 8, 2025.”

The update is an indication that the case is still in progress, with the prosecution to continue to pursue allegations and charges that are associated with irregular financial dealings during the former governor’s tenure.

Forgery and Academic Fraud Cases Dominate

Most of the cases involve alleged use of forged academic certificates to get jobs in government offices.

In MCAC No. E043 of 2025, Republic Vs Douglas Mogusu, the accused is alleged to have falsified academic qualifications to be employed to work as a driver in the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd.

According to the ODPP, the case is scheduled for mention on December 8, 2025, to ascertain the progress of the plea-bargaining deal.

Another similar case, MCAC No. E006 of 2025 is that of Samuel Odhiambo Agumba, who was involved in the forgery of documents to enable him to serve as a clerical officer at IEBC.

The prosecutors disclosed that the mention will be used “to confirm payment of the second instalment of payment in the plea-bargaining deal by the accused.”

Abuse of Office and Bribery Scrutiny

Other ones involve alleged misconduct by public officers abusing their positions.

MCAC No. E017 2025, Republic Vs Veronica Njenga and another, involves a Senior Clerical Officer from the National Registration Bureau accused of abuse of office.

Hearing of the case is set to take place on December 9, 2025.

In MCAC No. E065 of 2025, Josphat Gichunge Kaabea faces charges of bribery involving the Chairperson of the Anti-Counterfeit Authority.

The ODPP confirms that the case is scheduled for mention on December 8, 2025 pre-trial directions.

Another case, MCAC No. E004 of 2024, is involves Ibrahim Ngamau, accused of pretending to be an EACC officer.

ODDP says the mention aims ” to confirm progress of the plea-bargaining deal.”

ODPP Reaffirms Fight Against Corruption.

The ODPP, in the notice, has highlighted its attempts to maintain accountability in government offices, stressing the importance of continued prosecutions in building public trust and safeguarding taxpayer resources.

While urging patience from the public, the statement reiterated,

“The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has been dedicated to serving justice without fear, favour, and prejudice.”

The corruption cases that have been reported throughout the week underscore the ongoing attempt by the government to curb corruption by people at various cadres, ranging from former governors to clerical officers.
