Detectives in Kisii County are investigating the suspicious murder of a 56-year-old man whose body was found in a church toilet under unclear circumstances.

According to the police report, Barnabus Machoni Kitoyi was found in the Christ Nyamemiso Church toilet in Nyamemiso, Nyaribari Chache, with “a black piece of cloth tied around his neck and fastened to the toilet roof.”

A machete was also found placed conspicuously on the toilet door.

Officers noted that there was no sign of disturbance at the scene, raising suspicion that the toilet could be a secondary scene.

The deceased’s shirt had blood on the collar of his shirt and police reported that his stomach was swollen.

Kitoyi, who was staying alone approximately one kilometre away, was reported to have a land dispute with the neighbours.

The case was scheduled to be heard in the Office of the Kegati Chief on December 8, 2025.

The body was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary pending post-mortem.
