The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has explained the cause of the power blackout experienced on the evening of Tuesday, December 10, in some parts of the country.
In a statement, Kenya Power said the power outage affected the North Rift, South Nyanza, and Western regions.
The Company said an incident on the regional Kenya-Uganda interconnected power network caused a disturbance on the system at around 7:14 pm, leading to a widespread power outage
“At 7.14 p.m. this evening, an incident on the regional Kenya-Uganda interconnected power network caused a disturbance on our system, resulting in a widespread power outage affecting customers in North Rift, parts of Western, South Nyanza, and Central Rift regions,” Kenya Power said.
Some of the affected areas include Eldoret, Nandi, Kitale, Nakuru, Naivasha, and a few sections of Nairobi, including Ridgeways and Kasarani.
Kenya Power said it managed to restore power in most of the affected areas within 30 minutes, except for Eldoret, which is still without power.
“Power was restored to most of the affected areas within approximately 30 minutes; however, Eldoret and some surrounding areas remain without supply, and our teams are working to restore power as quickly as possible,” the Company said.
“We apologise to our customers in the affected areas for the inconvenience and truly appreciate your patience.”

Kenya Power has also listed the regions in Nairobi County scheduled for a power maintenance on Wednesday, December 10, from 5:00 am to 6:00 pm.
This includes 1st, 2nd & 3rd Parklands, Doctors Park, Batu Batu Est, Masari Rd., Sivachi Rd, Dovu Lane, Mwanzi Rd, Ring Rd, Part of Mpaka Rd, and adjacent customers.
Parts of Mwiki, including Mwiki Township, Part of Maji Mazuri, Kenyatta Farm, Mwiki Police, Nyawai Sec, and Mwiki Good Hope School, will also experience a power outage.

Langata Deliverance and Part of Mbagathi Road are also on the list.
The affected areas include Part of Mbagathi Rd, Akila II, Airport View Est, Jonathan Clog, Part of Langata Rd, AP Uhuru Camp, Mbagathi Rd, Nairobi, West Prison, Deliverance, Dam View Est, White Star Academy, Nyayo High Rise Est, Amref, Canaan Est, Montezuma Funeral Home, Mbagathi Hosp, Defense Memorial Hosp, Canaan Est, Texas Cancer Center, Qwetu Mbagathi Way, Akiba, Hamayun, Part of Langata Rd, KMTC, Kenyatta Hospital Staff Quarters & adjacent customers.
