National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi are mourning the death of their elder brother, Mwalimu James Mukhwana Wetang’ula, a retired teacher remembered for his humility, discipline, and enduring impact on the community.
In an emotional statement, Speaker Wetang’ula said the family had lost a pillar whose guidance shaped many lives.
“It is with deep sorrow that I announce the passing of my dear elder brother, Mr. James Mukhwana Wetang’ula,” he said.
“A retired teacher of great humility, discipline, and wisdom, James touched many lives. He was a devoted father, mentor, and pillar in our community. His legacy as an educator and family man remains firmly in our hearts.”
Wetang’ula described James as the firstborn of their late parents, Mzee Dominic Khaemba Wetang’ula and Mama Anna Wetang’ula, and a cherished brother to the entire family.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of my elder brother, Mwalimu James Mukhwana Wetang’ula,” Wanyonyi said.
“As a family, it is painful and deeply unsettling, but we remain grateful to God for the gift of his life. You fought your battles with courage, you ran your race with honour, and you leave behind a legacy that will continue to guide us.”
Quoting scripture, he added: “As it is written in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, ‘give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.’”
