The Ministry of Interior announced traffic disruption and closure of major roads around Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi during the Jamhuri Day Celebrations on December 12th, 2025.
Regional Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo outlined the government’s final preparedness plan for the national holiday.
Speaking on December 11th, 2025, Kitiyo urged all Kenyans willing to attend the ceremony to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to safety advisories issued by authorities.
He announced traffic flow to ensure Jamhuri Celebrations are conducted properly to ensure safety for all attendees.
“I wish to announce that for us to have smooth traffic flow and peaceful demonstrations tomorrow, the following arrangements have been made,” Kitiyo said.
According to the Nairobi Regional Commissioner, key areas in the Central Business District (CBD) and around Nyayo Stadium will be closely monitored to ensure public safety during the national event.
He also noted that both officers in uniform and non-uniformed will be deployed to boost security measures ahead of the celebrations.
“Security measures have been put in place within the venue and the CBD and the estates starting from the Eve of celebrations, that is from today until the final day, with uniform and non-uniformed officers deployed at strategic points and specialized teams will also be available for any eventualities,” he said.

Motorists have been urged to adhere to major traffic disruptions on December 12th, 2025, as police implement security measures.
Gilbert said some major roads will be temporarily closed, and motorists should obey the direction of traffic police officers on the day of the celebrations.
“On traffic management, all the vehicles from Lang’ata road will be diverted and Madaraka road roundabout to Lusaka road roundabout,” said Gilbert.
He added, “All vehicles on the Expressway from Westlands will exit at Bunyala beginning from 7:00 AM, and those from Mlolongo will exit at the Capital Center.”

Nairobi Regional Commissioner said no vehicles will be allowed on the Expressway opposite Nyayo Stadium.
Meanwhile, traffic on other roads will operate normally, and motorists have been asked to cooperate.
