A prominent Kenyan NGO, Usikimye (don’t be silent), is facing a severe crisis of credibility and accountability following recent claims against its founders regarding the organisation and its leadership.
The organisation was co-founded in 2019 by Njeri Wa Migwi and Stella Khachina, motivated by a shared vision to end femicide and gender-based violence (GBV).
It has faced public backlash after a dramatic escalation of an internal dispute went viral on X over the weekend of Sunday, December 14, 2025.
Usikimye has since said in a statement: “In response to recent online discussions, Usikimye is committed to transparency and recognizing the contributions that have shaped our organization… Usikimye was co-founded in 2019 by Njeri Migwi and Stella Khachina, motivated by a shared vision to end femicide and gender-based violence (GBV).”

The statement continues, “We acknowledge and appreciate Stella Khachina’s significant foundational contributions to Usikimye. To ensure accurate representation of co-founders, our website has been updated to reflect this recognition, including their roles as co-founders.”
Co-founder Stella Khachina is reportedly at the center of the revelations, having allegedly accused Ms. Wa Migwi of covering up a case of alleged grooming/abuse involving Njeri’s son and an adopted younger sister, with claims that the victim was blamed rather than the situation being addressed.
Kenyans from the X account have accused Njeri Migwi of the mistake she was accused of, with some demanding her arrest.
“I still don’t want to believe hiyo story ya USIKIMYE bro. Manufacturing GBV victims? Some stories hadi nlikua nashindwa kusoma juu ya cruelty. So there were no victims; it was just clients? As someone who’s pro-charity, she has failed us, and it makes people hard to believe in such courses. If this story is true, Njeri Migwi should be arrested,” Josh001, X user said in a comment.

“The idea that an organization dedicated to protecting survivors would allegedly cover up abuse involving its own leadership is simply devastating,” stated an X user following the controversy. “It makes you question everything.”
The NGO is also facing accusations of misappropriating donor funds and turning the organization into a “scam” or “pyramid scheme”-like operation.
Social media users have been sharing alleged leaked chats and receipts, leading to widespread concern among Usikimye’s donor base.
Some demand an explanation from the organisation that has damaged the reputation of the leading fighter for femicide and GBV in Kenya.
“Making up GBV stories against children for financial gain is sick & depraved. I hope all the Usikimye allegations are not true. Njeri Migwi owes us an explanation,” Mwendefrey said her X account.
