A family-appointed pathologist has released detailed findings explaining the cause of death of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo, shedding light on the extent of injuries sustained before his passing.

The revelations were made following a post-mortem examination conducted on the body, with the family seeking clarity on the circumstances surrounding his death.

Speaking after the examination, Dr. Joseph Ndungu, a pathologist representing the family of the late Cyrus Jirongo, said the examination revealed extensive physical trauma across multiple parts of the body, pointing to severe blunt force injuries as the primary cause.

Dr. Ndungu explained that the injuries were widespread and catastrophic: “We have looked at the body of the late Jirongo and it had multiple injuries.”

According to the findings, the former legislator suffered numerous fractures and internal injuries that ultimately proved fatal.

Multiple fractures documented

The pathologist disclosed that the examination revealed skeletal damage, particularly to the limbs.

“There were multiple fractures. There was a fracture involving the right hand, two fractures involving the right hand, and then there were fractures of both lower limbs, the lower limbs and the legs,” he said.

“These injuries were consistent with exposure to extreme force,” he added.

Beyond the limbs, the chest sustained devastating trauma.

“There was a crash injury to the chest with multiple rib fractures.”

The impact, he explained, extended to vital organs, worsening the severity of the injuries.

Severe internal organ damage

According to the autopsy report, the heart and major blood vessels were critically damaged.

“There was perforation of the heart with the rupture of most of the major vessels that connect with the heart,” Dr. Ndungu stated, adding that this led to extensive internal bleeding.

He further confirmed, “there were also bleeding into the chest cavity.”

The abdominal region was equally affected.

The pathologist said there were “crash injuries going to the abdomen with a crash of the liver with also bleeding into the abdominal cavity.”

Such injuries, he explained, are typically associated with high-impact blunt force trauma.

Spinal injuries and cause of death

In addition to chest and abdominal injuries, the spinal cord was severely damaged.

Dr. Ndungu revealed that there was “transection of the spinal cord at the thoracic level,” an injury that alone can be fatal due to its impact on vital bodily functions.

Summarizing the findings, the family pathologist concluded, “as a result of our examination, we formed an opinion that the late Cyrus Girongo died as a result of a crash injury to the chest, the abdomen, and also spinal injuries due to blunt force trauma.”
