As the country enters the 2025 festive season, the government has rolled out key security strategies targeting locals and international visitors expected in the country.
The Ministry of Interior and National Administration on a statement on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, noted that the country’s current security is calm and stable.
The report further outlined the measures to the public that mostly accompany the festive seasons, including isolated increases in security incidents, traffic violations, and opportunistic criminal activities.
The ministry said they have activated the National Multi-Agency Command Centre (NMACC), which will serve as a hub for surveillance, intelligence sharing, and rapid response.
The agency is staffed by a combined force from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), National Police Service (NPS), National Intelligence Service (NIS), and several other state services.
“The National Multi-Agency Command Centre (NMACC) has been activated to coordinate surveillance, intelligence sharing, and rapid response before, during, and after the festive season,” the Ministry stated.

Thousands of officers previously on leave have been recalled to duty. These teams are being deployed to “high-traffic locations,” including:
The Traffic Police Department and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) have started a nationwide operation. In order to prevent bribery and corruption during enforcement, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has been integrated into the road safety teams.

Regional and County Security Committees have been directed to reinforce counter-terrorism preparedness.
Specialized units are focusing on safeguarding large public gatherings and implementing “Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism” (P/CVE) plans.
Simultaneously, a crackdown is underway against organized criminal gangs across Nairobi, the Coast, Western, Nyanza, Central, and Eastern regions. The government is also escalating enforcement against social crimes, including FGM, domestic violence, and religious extremism.

NACADA is leading a nationwide operation to cut the production and consumption of dangerous illicit substances. Working with the National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), the authority aims to mitigate the threat these substances pose to public safety during the holidays.

The Ministry stressed that “public safety is a shared responsibility” and urged wananchi to remain vigilant.
Travel Tips for Motorists:
Alternative Routes: Travelers from Nairobi to Western/Nyanza are encouraged to use the Nairobi-Suswa-Narok route to avoid the Mai Mahiu escarpment.
Central Region: The Nairobi-Nyeri-Nyahururu-Nakuru route is recommended for smoother travel to the Rift Valley.
“We urge all wananchi to remain vigilant and to cooperate fully with law enforcement officers throughout the festive season,” the statement read.
