Ugandan Opposition leader Bobi Wine has come out to condemn the dismissal of Uganda Prisons Service officer Ampe Lawrence, terming it as an injustice within the country’s security system.
Ampe was dismissed after using social media to expose alleged human rights abuses, corruption, and mistreatment of junior officers.
Bobi Wine said the punishment is being used as a tool for silencing the officers from standing for honesty.
“For using social media to expose the abuse of human rights, corruption, abuse of power, oppression of lower-ranking officers and other evils within the Uganda Prisons Service, officer Ampe Lawrence has been rewarded with a dismissal,” he wrote on his X official account.
Bobi Wine claimed that some military officers regularly appear in the media to openly support President Yoweri Museveni’s alleged dictatorship and partisan politics.
He said that such officers are really punished and most of them end up being rewarded with promotions.
“This contrast tells you all you need to know about the system of oppression that the @NUP_Ug government will be purposed to dismantle once in power.” Bobi Wine said.

He went on to expose alleged oppression in the government and vowed to dismantle all that once he takes over power as president.
Bobi Wine added on in a bid to make reforms in the government and the laws that govern Uganda once he cliches presidency in the upcoming elections.
“In the New Uganda, we shall build a professional, non-partisan security sector that respects and applies the law equally. We shall build a Uganda that hears and protects patriotic public servants like Ampe instead of hounding them out of their jobs for choosing integrity over safety,” Bobi Wine said.
However, Bobi Wine boldly admitted his recognition of Ampe and promised to stand with him. He also called on citizens to speak out without fear and stand against state oppression for a better Uganda.

The officer said that it takes courage to fight the oppressive government.
He urged Ugandans to keep going forward, be fearless and stand up to fight for what is right for the country.
“I’m okay with my dismissal. Let this be a reminder: standing for truth takes courage, and their behavior doesn’t define our journey. Let it empower you to keep pushing forward, speaking up, and fighting for what’s right. Don’t let fear hold you back. Let it fuel your passion for justice. Rise above the noise and keep shining,” Ampe said
