The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has issued a weather advisory alerting people to the possibility of heavy rainfall in various regions of the country from Saturday, December 27, through December 30, 2025.
The country will see a notable rise in precipitation, according to the official warning issued by Kennedy Thiong’o on behalf of the Director of Meteorological Services.
As the likelihood of flash floods increases, locals in the impacted areas are advised to exercise caution.
The department has categorized the severity of this weather event as Moderate to Heavy, with a moderate probability of occurrence (33% to 66% chance).

On Saturday, December 27, in the Southeastern lowlands, rainfall of more than 20mm in 24 hours is expected, while on Sunday, December 28 – Monday, December 29, Storms are projected to intensify to more than 30mm in 24 hours.
This intensity will spread to the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Southern Coastal regions.
The statement further noted that on Tuesday, December 30, Rainfall intensity is expected to reduce by 3:00 AM.

The advisory has been addressed to the Presidency, including the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry; the Ministry of Education; the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Environment and Climate Change; the National Intelligence Service; the Kenya Red Cross; the Kenya Maritime Authority; the Kenya Ports Authority; the Kenya Airports Authority; the National Disaster Operations Centre; the National Disaster Management Unit; the media; relevant government ministries; the Council of Governors; County Directors of Meteorological Services (CDMS); and the general public.
