Pwani University (PU) is a premier public chartered institution in Kenya, uniquely positioned in the historic coastal town of Kilifi.
Situated approximately 60 kilometers north of Mombasa, the campus sits adjacent to the Indian Ocean, offering a serene and culturally rich environment for higher learning.
The university’s roots trace back to 1984, when it was founded as the Kilifi Institute of Agriculture. Recognizing its growth potential, the government upgraded the facility to a constituent college of Kenyatta University on August 23, 2007.
Following years of rapid academic and infrastructural expansion, Pwani University was granted a full university charter on January 31, 2013, marking its transition into a fully autonomous center of excellence.

Pwani University’s fee structure has recently changed due to the New Higher Education Funding Model introduced by the Kenyan government. This model separates placement (via KUCCPS) from funding, which is now based on a student’s financial need.
