Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a private Kenyan university governed by a Board of Trustees under the leadership of Prof. Simon N. Gicharu.

Established in 1996, the university’s main campus is located in Thika town, approximately 47 kilometres northeast of Nairobi by road.

MKU houses a College of Health Sciences comprising four schools: the Medical School, Clinical School, Nursing School, and Pharmacy School.

The university offers certificates, diplomas, degrees, master’s, and PhD programs, depending on the field of study.

Under this school, there are two departments offering degree courses at MKU, including Energy and Environmental Technology, Petroleum Exploration and Production, Real Estate Management, and Bachelor of Technology in Computer and Electronic Systems.

School of Computing and Informatics

The University offers the following Degree Courses, which include: Information Technology, Information Science and Knowledge Management, and Enterprise Computing.

Hospitality, Travel & Tourism Management

This school started in 2016 and currently offers nine programmes that is spread into two departments, namely, the Department of Hospitality Management and the Department of Travel and Tourism Management.

School of Law

Mount Kenya University’s Parklands Law Campus is duly accredited by the Council of Legal Education to provide undergraduate legal training leading to the award of a Bachelor of Laws degree.

The LLB Programme started in 2009.

School of Social Sciences

The School of Social Sciences consists of the departments of Psychology, Humanities and Languages, Social and Development Studies, Journalism and Mass Communication, as well as the Institute of Security Studies, Justice and Ethics.

School of Education

MKU gives learners the opportunity to pursue the following courses and the School of Education.

Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Studies.

Education in Special Needs Education (Primary Option).

Bachelor of Education (Primary Education).

Education (Arts).

Bachelor of Education (Primary Option).

Bachelor of Education (Science).

School of Pure and Applied Sciences

The Courses in this School include Bachelor of Science in Statistics, Industrial Chemistry, Finance and Statistics, Actuarial Science, and Biomedical Laboratory Science.

School Business and Economics

MKU offers students the chance to enroll in business courses, including Business Information Technology, Business Management, Economics, Economics and Finance, Commerce and Economics, and Statistics.

Fee Structure

The following are the payable fees for various courses per semester;

  1. Bachelor of Medicine Ksh 170,000
  2. Bachelor of Surgery Ksh 125,000
  3. Bachelor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Science: Ksh 83,500 per semester.
  4. BA of Law Ksh 85,000
  5. Bachelor of Science in Clinical Medicine Ksh 80,000
  6. Community Health fee Ksh 80,000
  7. BA in Medical Laboratory Sciences Ksh 70,000
  8. Bachelor of Public Health Ksh 67,500
  9. BA in Film and Animation Studies Ksh60,000
  10. Bachelor of Technology in Computer and Electronic Systems Ksh 59,500
  11. Animal Health and Production or Nutrition and Dietetics Ksh 62,500
  12. BSc in Hospitality Management, Travel and Tourism Management Ksh 57,500.
  13. Business and Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Science and Information Technology Ksh 55,500.

Additionally, the following courses cost a fee of KSh 55,000 per Semester: Industrial Chemistry, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Community Health and Development, Health Records and Information Management, Education (Science), Bachelor of Education in Special Needs Education (Secondary Education) and Bachelor of Science in Laboratory Technology.
