Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natenbeya is reportedly recovering from a broken leg after being involved in an accident on Christmas Day.

Trans Nzoia County’s Chief Executive Member in charge of Lands, Housing, Physical Planning and Urban Development, Pius Gumo, confirmed the reports on Monday, December 29,  during former  Lugari Member of Parliament  Cyrus Jirongo’s Memorial Service in Bungoma.

Gumo confirmed that the Governor has been injured, though he did not reveal the nature of the accident, and said this was the reason he failed to attend the memorial service.

“I have brought the condolence message of Governor George Natembeya. He got involved in an accident during Christmas, and he broke his leg; that is why he could not be here. He would have loved to be here to console the family,” Gumo said.

Condolence Message

In his condolence message delivered by Gumo, the county chief described Jirongo as a leader who remained honest, considerate of the people’s welfare, and committed to the interests of Bungoma County and Kenya throughout his political career.

“On his behalf, I would like to console you and remind you of his message to the family, and recognise Jirongo as a leader who championed the interests of the lowly citizens, and that we as leaders should do the same,” Gumo added.

Natembeya Last Public Appearance

Natembeya’s last public appearance was on December 24, when he visited the Wamalwa Kijana Hospital in his county.

During his visit, the county chief reportedly settled over Ksh6 million in bills for patients at the facility, most of whom were mothers.

Natembeya also spoke with several patients and observed some of the challenges they faced before being admitted.

He had also actively advocated for the performance of traditional rites during Jirongo’s burial, amid increasing demands for clarity regarding the former minister’s death.
