KWS Warns Motorists Visiting Parks

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has encouraged visitors to national parks to use the KWS Bus Shuttle service as a safer and more convenient alternative during the ongoing rainy season.

Thanking Kenyans and tourists who have already embraced the initiative, KWS noted that the shuttle service has helped many enjoy the parks without any complications.

“From families to friends and first time visitors,it was great to see Kenyans and visitors alike enjoying our parks with ease,” the service said.

KWS added that the shuttle will continue operating on weekends and public holidays throughout the festive season at Nairobi National Park, Aberdare National Park and Lake Nakuru national park, allowing visitors to experience wildlife without the challenges posed by wet terrain .

KWS Safety Concerns in Parks

KWS has also issued a safety advisory following persistent heavy rains that have left several parks extremely wet.

According to the agency,”due to the ongoing heavy rains, several parks are extremely wet,” increasing the risk of vehicles getting stuck or swept away.

Nairobi National Park is one of the parks that has been highlighted as one of the affected areas by the advisory.

Off Road Driving and River-Crossing Discouraged

Motorists who opt to drive into the parks have been strongly cautioned against unsafe driving habits. KWS reminded the visitors,”not to go off-road and not to cross flooded rivers,” noting that the water levels may rise suddenly and the conditions may change without any warning.
