Local Companies That Closed Business in Kenya This Year

Kenya has been struggling with an economic crisis for a long period of time, making it hard for some companies to survive.

Since the start of 2025, numerous companies have shut their doors and ceased operations.

This article has listed some companies that were closed in 2025.

D.T. Dobie

The High Court ordered its closure.

D.T. Dobie Company has operated in Kenya for more than 75 years, making it one of Kenya’s oldest automotive forms.

The court also appointed Mark Gakuru to serve as the official receiver and directed creditors to submit their complaints by September 15, 2025.

Meanwhile, D.T. Dobie merged with CFAO Motors Kenya in April 2023; therefore, vehicle brands, servicing, among other operations will not shut down.

CMC Motors

Cooper Motor Corporation (CMC) group was the East African company that dealt with vehicle import and dealer.

However, on January 17, 2025, the company announced its closure in East African countries, having worked in the region for 40 years.

According to the group, the cost of operation rose, making it hard to survive.

“This decision follows a thorough evaluation of the business in light of sustained market challenges, including economic pressures, currency depreciation, and rising operational costs,” stated part of their announcement.

Caltex House Service Station Limited

After the government issued the notice on June 5, 2025, Caltex was dissolved after serving for decades in Kenya.

Caltex dealt specifically with engine oils, antifreeze/coolants, and products for SUVs, cars, motorbikes, industrial, heavy-duty, and off-road applications.

This move was penned down in a Gazette Notice No. 7420 by the Registrar of Companies, states that Caltex House Service Station Limited (Company No. C. 12484) will be struck off the official register in three months unless any objections are raised.

The notice was issued by Deputy Registrar of Companies Hiram Gachugi under Section 894(3) of the Companies Act (Cap. 486).

Al-Habib

Ceased its operation in Kenya on May 15, 2025, after operating for seven years.

Bank of Al-Habib was a Pakistani bank operating in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) formally terminated its operation after a review to streamline its foreign operations.

“The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) announces the cancellation of the authority granted to Bank Al-Habib Ltd (BAHL) of Pakistan to operate the BAHL Representative Office in Kenya, pursuant to Section 43 of the Banking Act,” said CBK.
