The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Nigeria has dismissed reports on the 2027 election timetable through an official communication signed by Adedayo Oketola the media advisor to the INEC Chairman.
In a statement on January 2,2026, INEC refuted reports circulating in some quarters claiming that it has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election.
According to the Commission, the information being shared is “false and misleading,” emphasizing that no official timetable has been issued for the upcoming polls.
INEC reaffirmed that it operates strictly within the law framework emphasizing that any genuine election timetable must comply with statutory provisions.
“INEC has not released any timetable or schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election,” the Commission stated.
The electoral body cited Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which requires the Commission to publish a Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the date appointed for a general election.
“Any timetable or schedule issued outside this statutory framework cannot emanate from INEC,” the statement read.
