NTSA Responds After Multiple Fatal Accidents Claim Lives Within 24 Hours

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has responded to recent road crashes that claimed lives and left several people injured.

In a statement on January 3, NTSA said it is deeply saddened by the tragic road traffic crashes that have claimed several lives and left others injured along major highways in the last 24 hours.

Konza Area Crash (Nairobi-Mombasa Highway)The incident involved a bus operated by Tahmeed Express Limited and a matatu operated by Naekana Route 139 Sacco.

Preliminary reports indicate that the matatu driver attempted to overtake another vehicle, leading to a head-on collision.

Kikopey Area Crash (Gilgil-Nakuru Highway)

The incident involved a matatu operated by Rift Valley Shuttle, a foreign-registered truck, and a stalled trailer.

Preliminary reports indicate that the foreign-registered truck failed to maintain a safe following distance, resulting in a rear-end collision with the matatu. Due to the impact, the matatu then collided with the stalled trailer.

Taita Village Area (Nairobi-Mombasa Highway)

The incident involved a bus operated by Janan Bus Services.

Preliminary reports indicate, the driver of the bus failed to keep his proper lane while overtaking and subsequently lost proper control of the vehicle. Fortunately, no fatalities were recorded following the incident.

“We take this opportunity to extend our sincere condolences to the families of the bereaved and wish a speedy recovery to those injured in these tragic incidents,” NTSA said.
