Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a stern warning to Kenyans still in possession of illegal firearms, declaring that the government will take decisive action against those who fail to surrender the weapons voluntarily.
The warning comes amid renewed security operations in parts of the country that have for years grappled with banditry, cattle rustling, and armed violence.
Speaking in the context of ongoing peace and security efforts, Murkomen emphasized that the government has already recorded progress through voluntary disarmament in some regions.
However, he made it clear that patience is running out for those who continue to hold onto illegal weapons despite repeated calls by authorities.
“While we commend those who have voluntarily surrendered illegal firearms, we call on all individuals still in possession to surrender them forthwith or face the full force of the law,” Murkomen said, underscoring the seriousness of the ultimatum.
The Cabinet Secretary linked the disarmament push to a broader national goal of restoring peace, unity, and stability, particularly in historically volatile regions.
He stressed that “security remains a prerequisite for development and social cohesion across the country.”
Murkomen made the remarks while attending an interdenominational church service at Chesombur in West Pokot, alongside President William Ruto, local leaders, and residents from Kerio Valley counties.
The service was held to celebrate what the government described as the “restoration of peace” in the region after sustained security interventions.
Quoting scripture, Murkomen invoked Colossians 3:15, saying, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”
He used the verse to urge residents to embrace reconciliation and reject violence as a way of life.

During the gathering, Murkomen reiterated that the government is not only relying on goodwill but is also intensifying enforcement measures.
“We are also scaling up security operations in parts of West Pokot, Turkana, and other areas across the country that continue to face security challenges,” he said, signaling tougher action ahead.
He further noted that “peace gains achieved so far must be protected,” warning that armed criminals threaten to reverse the progress made through community cooperation and government intervention.

Murkomen praised residents of Kerio Valley for responding positively to calls for peace, saying their cooperation had opened the door for development initiatives.
“I commend the residents for heeding our call for peace and applaud local leaders for their continued collaboration in our efforts to sustain lasting peace, security, and stability,” he said.
He added that “the government is leveraging improved security to roll out infrastructure projects, expand service delivery, and promote alternative, sustainable livelihoods.”
According to Murkomen, these efforts are aimed at integrating the region into the broader national economy and “opening up the area for economic opportunities to level it up with the rest of the country.”
Reaffirming the administration’s long-term vision, Murkomen said the disarmament exercise and security operations are part of a wider strategy to build a peaceful and united nation.
“We remain committed to ensuring a peaceful and united nation as we pursue our goal of attaining a first-world status,” he said.
