As 2026 approaches, motorists are expected to continue using the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS) to process licence renewals.
The online platform eliminates long queues, allows cashless payments, and enables drivers to complete the entire procedure from their phones or computers.
The renewal process applies to both the smart driving licence and the traditional licence for drivers still transitioning to the new system.
The steps remain straightforward, provided you have an active TIMS account and accurate personal details.
Motorists are encouraged to confirm that their personal information, including ID number, phone number, and email address, is up to date before beginning the renewal process to avoid delays.
For those using the smart DL, the renewal period ranges from one to three years, while older booklet licences continue to be phased out.
Payments are made online via mobile money or other digital platforms integrated within TIMS, making the process seamless and paperless.

Step-by-Step Renewal Process
To renew your licence, start by logging into your NTSA TIMS account through the official portal.
Once logged in, navigate to the Driving Licence section, where you will find the Renewal option.
Click on it to view your current licence details and select the renewal period you prefer.
After selecting the renewal duration, the system will generate the applicable fee.
You will then proceed to pay through the available digital payment methods, including mobile money platforms.
Once payment is confirmed, NTSA will issue a digital acknowledgement, and your renewed licence status will be updated in your account.
What You Need Before Applying
Before starting the renewal process, ensure you have your ID card, a registered phone number linked to your TIMS account, and a stable internet connection.
You should also confirm that your account is active, as inactive accounts may require reactivation before renewal.
