Police are investigating a confrontation between Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino and Kileleshwa Ward MCA Robert Alai that involved the brandishing of a firearm.
The incident happened at Cedars Lebanese Restaurant in Kilimani on Saturday, January 3, 2026.
Babu Owino recorded a statement with the police, accusing the MCA of assaulting him.
He explained that his friend, a senior clergyman, had invited him to a meeting at the hotel.
However, the MP said he noticed a group of people he knew seated at an adjacent table as he was leaving.
The MP said he approached the table and greeted those present, including the MCA for Kileleshwa Ward, Robert Alai.
Babu Owino said the MCA accused him of being behind alleged social media attacks on his wife.
“I stood next to him, and before I left, there was one of them who said that you know, Babu, you will be a governor of Nairobi. Then Alai became mad, and from that point he stood up, pushed me, saying you cannot be a governor of Nairobi, you sent people to attack my wife on social media,” Babu Owino said.
He says the MCA drew a pistol, cocked it, and struck him in the chest before punching him in the jaw.
Babu claims he remained composed even as a DCI officer at the scene intervened and disarmed Alai.
Attempts to amicably settle the matter at the scene did not end well. Uwino says the MCA slashed water on him.
The MP later reported the incident at Kilimani police station.
